Our Story

Rooted in Family. Grown in Mexico. Shared with the World.

Forty years ago, a man left England with a dream and a one-way ticket to Mexico. He settled in Morelos, planted his first seeds, and built a farm from the ground up — not just for himself, but for the family he would raise on that land. That man is our father. And this is our story.

Where It Begins

We are Alexander and Rebeka Smyth. We grew up on a farm in Morelos, Mexico — rows of okra stretching toward the sky, harvested by hand, shipped fresh to markets across the United States and Europe. It is what our family knows. It is what our family is.

For decades, we were proud farmers. We knew our crop intimately — its seasons, its soil, its quality. What we didn't fully understand was its power.

That understanding came through pain.

Rebeka's Story

It started with a dinner out — the kind of evening filled with laughter, good food, and a few too many glasses of wine. By the time Rebeka got home, the familiar burn in her chest had returned. Heartburn. Again. It had been a quiet but persistent companion for years.

That night, almost instinctively, she walked to the kitchen and did something she had seen her grandmother do a hundred times before. She took fresh okra from the counter — okra they had grown themselves — cut it, soaked it in water, and drank it.

Within the hour, the burning subsided. She slept soundly.

She told herself it was a coincidence. But it kept happening. Every time her gut felt unsettled, every time digestion felt sluggish or uncomfortable, she turned to okra water. And every time, it worked. Her energy steadied. Her digestion improved in ways she hadn't experienced in years.

"What my grandmother knew, science is only now beginning to confirm." — Rebeka Smyth, Co-Founder

She began researching. She read everything available about okra's nutritional profile — its soluble fiber, its mucilage, its role in gut health and blood sugar regulation. What she discovered was extraordinary. The very properties that made their okra prized in fresh markets were the same properties that made it a powerful functional ingredient.

Alexander's Story

Alexander had left Mexico for London years earlier — building a career, a life, a sense of independence. But when it became clear that the family farm needed leadership, he made a decision. He left London and came home to Morelos.

That transition brought more change than expected. Around the same time, his personal life unraveled. The stress was enormous — the pressure of the farm, the weight of a breakup, the difficulty of starting over in more ways than one. His body bore the cost.

He developed severe gut issues. Constant digestive discomfort. Heartburn after every meal. Bloating that left him exhausted. He was struggling in silence, trying to manage the farm, manage his emotions, and manage a body that felt completely out of balance.

The people around him kept saying the same thing: okra. Drink the water. Trust what grows here.

So he tried it. Fresh okra from their own fields, soaked overnight, consumed first thing in the morning. Within weeks — dramatically, undeniably — his gut health transformed. The heartburn faded. The digestive issues quieted. His energy returned.

"I had been farming the answer my whole life. I just hadn't listened yet." — Alexander Smyth, Co-Founder

The Moment H2Okra Was Born

Alexander and Rebeka talked for a long time about what to do with what they had discovered. They already had a thriving fresh okra business. But they kept coming back to the same question: How many people are suffering from the same things we suffered from, and don't know that this exists?

They weren't sure if the world was ready. Okra isn't a blueberry. It doesn't have decades of wellness marketing behind it. The conversation would require education, patience, and belief.

But they believed.

And the response has been extraordinary. People who try H2Okra feel the difference. They reach out to share their improved digestion, their clearer skin, their relief from heartburn, their steadier energy. They are experiencing exactly what Alexander and Rebeka experienced on that farm in Morelos.

"We didn't start a company. We started a conversation about what real wellness looks like."

What We Stand For

  • Forty years of farming expertise — our father's legacy, carried forward
  • Personal healing — we didn't theorize these benefits. We lived them.
  • The land itself — our okra is still grown in Morelos, on the same fields, by the same family

Every bottle of H2Okra carries that story.
